What We Treat

At the Prodromos Stem cell institute, we treat using both ethically sourced donated umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells, never embryonic or fetal, as well as exosomes which are components of stem cells that carry the “medicines” of stem cells. Treatments is carried out intravenously, intra-particularly (into a joint) or intranasally in most cases.

FAQs - Stem Cell Treatment

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are cells that can grow into different kinds of tissues. They also secrete agents that act on those tissues.

What kind of stem cells do you use?

We use mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) that are derived primarily from donated placentas. These are NOT fetal or embryonic so there are no ethical issues

What do these stem cells do?

They work in three ways. First they have powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Second they contain growth factors that help heal damaged tissue. Third they influence the recipient immune system into a healing state, called M2.

Where do these cells come from?

They come from placentas or umbilical cords donated by ladies after term cesarean sections.

Is stem cell treatment safe?

Stem cell treatment is one of the safest types of treatment in existence if good stem cells are used and they are properly used.

Is stem cell treatment covered by insurance?

No, no insurance company currently pays for regenerative stem cell treatment.

Where are the treatments performed?

We now primarily treat our patients at our clinic in Naples, Florida. Our network of high quality personally trained partner doctors also offer treatments in Irving, TX and Jupiter, Florida. We are finalizing a partner agreement also in Tokyo, Japan.

How long does it take for stem cell treatment to work?

Results vary but often the results are immediate or within a few days. In some cases, benefits may take several weeks or months to manifest.

How many stem cell treatments will I need?

That depends on the disease and also on the person. Our treatments for arthritis typically last many years from a single treatment. However, injections for autoimmune disease will likely need to be repeated at intervals.

How are stem cells administered?

Stem cells are injected intravenously for the conditions listed below. For arthritis, the cells are also injected directly into the joint. For some conditions, the cells are injected locally at the area where the problem is.

Is stem cell injection painful?

IV injection is completely painless. Injection into a joint has minimal discomfort. No sedation or anesthetics are used or needed.

Who performs the injections?

Dr. Prodromos performs all his own injections at our clinic in Naples, Florida, and our expert partner medical doctors also perform all of their treatments themselves at our other locations.

Does the prodromos stem cell institute perform research?

Yes, world-leading studies are continuously performed, presented at international meetings, and published in PubMed-indexed peer-reviewed medical journals under the auspices of the 501c3 Foundation for Orthopaedics and Regenerative Medicine (The FOREM.org) founded by Dr. Prodromos in 2003.

Exosomes are tiny vesicles, one thousandth as big as a stem cell that carry much of the medicines found in stem cells. Stem cells secrete them but they are also used separately

What are exosomes? Are you able to treat Parkinson’s, ALS, stroke, Lewy Body Dementia and other neurocognitive disorders

Yes we have pioneered treatment for these and other related disorders using exosomes instilled intra-nasally. We are having breakthrough success and have published our results, which can be found elsewhere on our website.

How will I know if stem cells are right for me

Our office screens callers at no charge to make sure they have a condition we can help. If so a detailed virtual consultation is arranged with Dr. Prodromos to fully discuss.

How can I find out more?

Our website is filled with information about our research and results, and you may contact our office for a consultation with Dr. Prodromos to discuss personalized potential treatment. Call (847) 699-6810 or e-mail [email protected]
